Twitter is 140 characters of micro blogging goodness, which just so happens to be a perfect resource for Internet marketers who are on a shoestring budget in these shaky economic times. Twitter is like a little fury friend who is always happy to see you at the end of a hard day. Fortunately, Twitter’s upkeep costs way less than any pet and does a far better job with helping Internet marketers on a shoestring budget.

Here are 5 ways Twitter can be help stretch your marketing budget.

1. Sit – Get comfortable with Twitter, start talking with people, respond to their questions and share some of your knowledge. Let them know you are a real person who knows your niche inside and out.

2. Stay – Twitter will hang on to any messages or comments you get while you are away. No need to worry, when you get back, just check to see what you missed, if it was something important, get back with that person right away, if not, just respond and they will see it when they return.

3. Rollover – ReTweets (RT) are common occurrences in Twitterland, say something worthwhile and your message will spread like wild fire.

4. Fetch – People who you add or who find you through other members are likely to check out your profile. If they see something they like, chances are they will contact you, so be sure to list your contact info or at least a link to your website where they can get in touch with you.

5. Shake – Seal the deal. Once you have interaction, introduce your service and how it can help those around you.

The biggest tip is to be yourself, otherwise you will be considered a spammer and your marketing efforts will be squelched. Interact first, then introduce. In fact, try not introducing your product for a month. After all, you wouldn’t want to automatically lose access to nearly 4 million people in one fell swoop, would you?
